James and Annie Millton established their winery on the banks of the Te Arai River in the wine growing region of Gisborne in 1984. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic principles in the Southern Hemisphere, only two things matter to James and Annie: the quality of the wine and leaving the land in an improved state for future generations.

Unlike most New Zealand wineries who focus on Sauvignon Blanc, Millton specialise in unsung grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer and Viognier. They consistently appear in fine dining venues worldwide and continue to receive numerous national and international accolades.
