Chateau d’Esclans is a fantastic property with an insanely grand house near La Motte (the granny flat has five bedrooms), and produces what many believe are the world’s best rosé wines.
The man behind the project is Sacha Lichine, son of the writer and vigneron Alexis, and until 1999 the proprietor of Margaux’s Chateau Prieure-Lichine. Since 1999, Sacha has been building up Domaines Sacha Lichine with d’Esclans as the jewel in the crown.
Everything is done with quality as the overriding focus. Sacha is very proud to say he takes the same care and attention of his grapes as any of the top Bordeaux chateaux do of theirs, and no expense is spared to ensure every vintage reaches its potential in the bottle. The wines themselves are made by Patrick Leon, who used to make the wine at none other than Chateau Mouton-Rothschild and Opus One. Not a bad CV!
