Wines from another dimension – the world’s only vineyard to grow in and around a meteor crater.

What happens when an endocrinologist and a neurologist discover a meteor crater? In the case of Dr Paul Jenkins and Dr Paul Jarman, they both decided to fulfil their lifelong dream of owning a vineyard. And thus, Domaine du Meteore was born.

The pair had become frequent visitors to the Languedoc region with their families over 25 years and had fallen in love with the domaine that sprawled over the meteorite-stuck hillside. Intrigued by its story and picturesque surroundings, in 2018 they took the leap and decided to buy the property.

The vineyards grow in and around the crater that was formed 10,000 years ago by a meteor, situated in the village of Cabrerolles at 300 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Haut-Languedoc mountains. Spanning across the AOP Faugeres and Saint-Chinian, the vines grow on schist soils and are surrounded by garrigue with the scent of wild thyme, fennel and cistus.

The wines are inspired by the land and its history, implementing organic and minimal intervention methods in the winemaking, to best express the unique terroir and natural forces that created it.  Producing wine in small volumes, Domaine du Meteore is working toward full biodynamic certification.
