The landscape of Bannockburn, in Central Otago, at first appears arid and deserted; certainly not a place for the faint hearted to produce wine.
However, for viticulture and winemaking duo, brothers James and Matt Dicey, it was the perfect place to bring Dicey to life. The region’s soil in Bannockburn is extremely differentiating, allowing them to make drastically different wines from vineyard to vineyard. Their wines have a strong sense of place, as all grapes across their three vineyards are bottled as single-vineyard wines.
The brothers’ shared philosophy when making wine is simple: ‘the answer lies in the soil.’ For them, wine is truly a family matter – they not only continue their family's winegrowing legacy, but also lay down the foundations for future generations, by running a sustainable vineyard.
