Segura Viudas dates back to the 11th century and became a brand in 1959 however; it was not until 1969 that it began to market its wines. In the early 1980s the Ferrer family of Barcelona ( the world's largest producers of sparkling wine for over 100 years) purchased the Segura Viudas estate and has now earned a reputation as one of the top producers of Cava.
The winery has been noted for its high production standards, its labour-intensive approach to winemaking, and its penchant for releasing some of Europe's finest artisan sparkling wines. Winemaker Gabriel Suberviola is in absolutely no doubt that “only the highest quality grapes are capable of producing cava with personality and complexity.
