Te Awa is a single estate situated in the Gimblett Gravels area of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand’s premium red wine producing area. Hotter than Bordeaux and with similar gravely soils to Graves, it is unsurprising that this region produces fine examples of Bordeaux blends with some exciting Chardonnay and Syrah to boot. Production note

Individual parcels of fruit were picked on successive cool mornings. The grapes were pressed to achieve gentle extraction on the juice. The juice was settled, clarified and transferred to stainless steel and French oak barrels. The barrels underwent a slow steady fermentation with a combination of selected yeast strains and wild fermentations for added complexity. Once complete, six months of yeast lees ageing in barrel and 100% malolactic fermentation was undertaken to add richness and weight t
