Production information

Producer: Knappstein

Knappstein is one of the biggest names in the Clare Valley, perhaps Australia's most enigmatic wine region. Home to both full-bodied rich reds and lean, lemony Riesling, Clare's split personality takes on a bit of Bordeaux, a bit of Alsace and a dash of the Rhone - all with a distinctive Aussie accent. The Knappstein philosophy is to simply produce the best handcrafted wine and beer possible from the Clare Valley. Located in the heritage listed Enterprise Brewery, established in 1878, Knappstein is steeped in the tradition of the region.

Production note

The wines are made with as minimal intervention to preserve the natural qualities of the fruit. Simple open fermenters with gentle extraction of flavours through hand plunging 4 times daily. The ferment lasted approximately 7 days before pressing and settling and was then transferred to fine grained French oak barrel for over 20 months.
