Production information

Producer: Grover Vineyards

In the 1970s Kanwal Grover visited France and immediately developed a love of the food and wine culture there. Shortly after Kanwal read about George Vesselle, Mumm Champagne’s technical director, making wine in China. This inspired him - if China can make wine then surely India can! Kanwal immediately invited Vesselle to visit. With Vesselle's help, Kanwal conducted experiments around India, searching for the best place to grow grapes. They studied the results and by 1988 it was clear that the Nandi Hills in Karnataka showed the most promise.

Grover Vineyards' first wines were launched on the Indian market in 1992. That same year Veuve Clicquot took a stake in the company. Then during a visit to Bordeaux in 1995, Kanwal met Michel Rolland and hired him as their consultant winemaker, a position he maintains to this day.
