Production information

Producer: Chateau St-Jean

Chateau St-Jean is a large estate with vines spread across the vast plateau of Plan de Dieu. The chateau is owned by Christian Meffre, son of the late Rhone merchant Gabriel. The family bought the estate in 1946 and have extended it from 60ha to 140ha with vines planted on all the appellation's classic soil types including the famous Chateauneuf pebble stones (or galets). The winemaking style emphasises fresh, clean fruit with supple tannins.

Production note

Traditional wine-making process with delestage and remontage for three out of four weeks in concrete vats. Part of the wine is aged for 18 months in concrete vats and the rest in French oak barrels. Not fined but lightly filtered before bottling and then aged for a further 6 months before release.
