Concentrated aromas with abundance of ripe black cherries, plum and sweet spice. Lively wine with ripe berry flavours complemented by hints of black tea and exotic spice. Richly textured and well balanced.

50% fermented whole cluster, the remaining were destemmed prior to fermentation. Fermented with native yeasts in open top fermenters.
After 14 days the wines were pressed and moved by gravity to oak barrels, mostly Francois Freres barrels, 10% new, for 11 months. Bottled unfiltered.

Calera Wine Company's history goes back more than 30 years, to when Josh Jensen fell in love with the wines of Burgundy and decided to turn it into his life's work. Having won a rowing blue in Oxford, Josh spent two years working at Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Domaine Dujac before returning to his native California convinced that the key to emulating Vosne-Romanee or Morey St-Denis was to find limestone soils.
His search lasted two years until he bought a plot of land with deep limestone soils in Mount Harlan and today it is feted as one of the state's finest terroirs for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The wines echo those of the Cote de Nuits much more closely than many of their compatriots and are paler and more delicate than the Californian norm. They will thrill those who prefer subtlety and refreshment to power and sweetness of fruit.
