Ruby red in colour with slightly grassy nose & bright aromas of plum and blackberry with a hint of pepper. Medium-bodied, it has soft tannins, crisp fruit and a long, fresh finish.
The grapes were separated from the stems, then left to ferment, and subsequently macerate for about fifteen days.
The wine was drawn off the lees and then aged for 12 to 15 months in small oak barrels. It was subsequently blended in stainless steel vats, before ageing for five months in bottle.

The grape variety Merlot is grown all over the world. This one is from northern Italy and has lots of plum and blackberry fruit flavours and some spiciness. It is not too heavy and most importantly, has a clean, crisp flavour to it.
Generous, ripe plum fruit with leafy notes; a soft, complex structure, with superb balance in the mouth.

Some top wineries are small, family-owned farms; others are the hobbies of wine-loving millionaires spending the money they have made elsewhere. Many are old historical estates with aristocratic connections. Villa Russiz, however, is the only one we know of that is essentially a charity that supports orphaned children.
The vineyards occupy 30 hectares of the estate; the soils are rich in marl and planted on south-facing slopes. The vines are planted at a very high density of around 6000-7000 plants per hectare in order to ensure maximum flavour in each bunch. The wines are always rich and concentrated, dry and fresh. Of the whites only the Chardonnay sees any oak, the others rely on the ripeness of the fruit for their power and intensity.
