Jaffelin
Famous, historic Burgundy producer with a smart young winemaker
Jaffelin are one of Burgundy’s historic negociant producers with a history stretching back to the early 19th Century. The firm originally produced the spirits Marc and Fine de Bourgogne, entering the wine business in 1816. Henri Jaffelin, the man who broadened the company’s horizons to include wine, had one motto: “Burgundy, nothing but Burgundy” – a maxim that still applies today.
Since 2004, Jaffelin’s owners have invested significantly in the company’s 12th Century cellars in Beaune. This, along with the appointment of energetic young winemaker Prune Amiot, has revitalised the quality of the wines.

The Big Houses of Beaune
Historically Burgundy’s most important producers were big negociant houses as they had the size and finances to produce and sell wines on a commercial scale. These houses are still important today and their mansions dominate the picturesque town of Beaune.
