Domaine Cheval-Blanc Signe
Fantastic value Bordeaux from a small, family-run domaine
Domaine Cheval-Blanc Signe is a small, family-run domaine in the Entre-Deux-Mers region that operates on a completely different scale from the famous names of the Medoc. There are no turrets on the chateau and no international consultants on huge pay packets in the cellar.
In their place there is the Signe family who quietly go about their business of making fantastic, affordable Bordeaux – something of a rarity in these days of overhyped en primeur campaigns. The family can trace their winemaking heritage back to the 18th century and now farm 70ha of vines in the village of Arbis, about 10km north-east of Cadillac.

What’s in a name?
A few years ago, the ‘other’ Cheval Blanc tried to sue the Signe family for breach of copyright. Thankfully, the Signe’s could prove their estate had been using the title for longer than its illustrious St Emilion counterpart and were allowed to keep the name.
