Classic Southern French wines from Corbieres
Chateau Fontareche, who produce Chateau St Eugene, is one of the oldest estates in the Languedoc, situated in the departement of Aude, just a few kilometers north of Lezignan-Corbieres. It is property that once belonged to the Archbishop of Narbonne. The origins of the chateau date back to the 14th Century.
Today the estate has 150 hectares of vineyard, divided between the Corbieres parcels for the AOC wines and the vin de pays parcels for the varietal wines. The vineyard is situated on a clay limestone terrace with pebbles that allows Arnaud de Lamy (formerly the oenologist at Chateau La Conseillante in Pomerol) to create ripe, fruity wines with some classic spicy, earthy southern French character.

Carignan – An unsung hero
Carignan is a much maligned grapes that planted in the wrong place can produce large quantities of low quality wine. But old vines planted up in the hills of the Languedoc, as at Chateau St Eugene, can produce intense, spicy wines full of local character.
