Bibendum Training - About Us
Inspiring passion and confidence in people to sell better drinks.
Awarded the prestigious titles of both WSET Educator of the Year and IWC Educator of the Year in 2014, we couldn’t be prouder of our dedicated training department.
One of the first wine suppliers to recognise the need for real training, we’ve been taking wine and spirits education seriously for over 10 years. Not only are our training team all WSET Approved Educators, but they have developed an array of in-house courses that focus on helping you sell more wine and spirits.
Meet the award-winning team:
Julia Bailey AIWS, Training Manager
With a degree in Journalism under her belt, Julia began her career in the wine trade within the consumer wine education sector. Joining Bibendum PLB over six years ago, she worked as a wine educator for several years, before taking the reigns as our training manager. After completing the WSET Diploma, she found she still couldn’t get enough of wine and launched her own wine blog. She is also our resident sake expert. You’ll find her sipping a glass of bubbly while writing her latest post.
Emily Humphreys, Wine Educator
With a BA in Political Science, Emily moved into hospitality management where she gained her personal licence and great experience across many iconic pub and bar groups. Joining Bibendum PLB two and a half years ago, she’s the newest addition to our team of trainers. With a keen interest in beer, she has developed our craft beer courses, but her real passion is wine and she is currently working towards her WSET Diploma. You’ll find her drinking a crisp glass of Chenin, while cheering on her local rugby team, Blackheath.
Amanda Willsher AIWS CIPD, Wine Educator and Project Manager
With a degree in Biology, Somerset-based Amanda worked in various roles across the wine industry and bar and restaurant scene, before joining Bibendum PLB over 10 years ago. Initially in our sales team, she soon moved across to training where she could put her WSET Diploma and CIPD Learning Certificate to great use. After managing the team for several years, she now focuses on our internal training programmes, while continuing to educate our customers. You’ll find her putting her feet up with a Tuscan red after a long session in the veg patch with her kids.
Kelly Rhymes AIWS CIPD, Wine Educator
A long-time sales and business development manager with a BA in Business Enterprise, Kelly worked across the pub industry before turning her hand to wine. Joining Bibendum PLB almost 10 years ago, she is our lead educator across the north of England, alongside managing a few key national accounts. With both the WSET Diploma and a CIPD HR Diploma under her belt, Kelly keeps her knowledge sharp as a keen Decanter reader. You’ll find her relaxing with a glass of something special from the Rhone after a long game of golf.
Monica Allan, Wine Educator
MPH graduate Monica worked in nursing for over 10 years in Sydney before moving across the world to settle in the UK with her family. She ran the Hampstead Women’s Wine Club before joining Bibendum PLB over four years ago to further her wine education. As well as delivering training throughout the On Trade, she takes the lead on our consumer courses. She’s currently working towards her WSET Diploma and when not reading Jancis’ Purple Pages, you’ll find her raiding her cellar for the next bottle of aged Spatlese.
Beth Keating, Wine Educator
A former Royal Ballet star, Beth caught the wine bug while touring the world with the company. With a background in wine retail, she moved across to Bibendum PLB over three years ago, where she settled as our training co-ordinator. A lynchpin within our team, Beth ensures our calendar of courses run smoothly, while also delivering internal wine education for staff across the business. She’s currently working towards her WSET Diploma and when not studying, you’ll find her obsessively reading psychology books and sipping on a glass of white Burgundy.
Will Lowe, Spirits Educator, AIWS
Master distiller of the Cambridge Distillery, Will Lowe cut his teeth working across the spirits category before moving into education. He now splits his time between distilling the world’s most exclusive gins, studying on the Master of Wine programme and delivering spirits qualifications up to diploma level. As our resident spirits expert, Will is the only distiller in the country teaching WSET spirits courses.
