Dark intense red with distinct violet notes towards the edges. Complex spice, red fruits & slighty wild aromas. A well structured wine, being full bodied, lots of flavour & vibrant refreshing acidity.
Vinification Details.
Destemmed, not crushed but cold soaked for 48h before being inoculated with yeast. Fermentation in small stainless tanks for 7 days when the cap was hand plunged 3 times a day. Post-fermentation maceration on skins for 14 days, before pressing. Malolactic fermentation & ageing in barrels.
Producer Information
Laid back New Zealander Brett Jackson is very much settled in Chile - although he hasn't lost his lifelong affection for the All Blacks - and much of Valdivieso's success in recent years has been down to his efforts. Based in Lontue, the company has a wealth of vineyards and the quality of the terroir is shown by the Single Vineyard wines. The whole range encapsulates everything that Chile excels at: rich, vibrant flavours and smooth, glossy textures - and the wines deserve the multitude of gongs they have picked up in recent years.
Regional info.
The fruit is all sourced from the Melozal area. Carignan is sourced from old (> 50 years old) dry farmed head pruned vines. These potent dense wine is balanced with the livelier fruitier Mourvedre & Syrah grown on free draining sandy clay loams. Vines were carefully managed to obtain small berries.
