Bibendum's USA selection

Jancis Robinson MW looks at the US dominance in the UK market, and is surprised to see less activity in the 'upmarket' area of the portfolio. She says

"You really would think that with the collapse of the dollar there might have been a bit more activity a little higher and doubtless threatened by the trend ideupmarket. It's as though the British wine trade, with the exception of Sir Peter Michael's Vineyard Cellars and the odd foray by David Motion of The Winery, has just collectively decided that American is wine overpriced, period. This was certainly the case until two or three years ago but wines such as Tesco Finest Napa Merlot 2005 Napa Valley ( £8.19 726 Tescos) and a clutch from Bibendum Wine: A-Z Pinot Noir 2006 Oregon ('Aristocratic wines at democratic prices' £13.99), Dry Creek Heritage Zinfandel 2006 Dry Creek Valley (a steal at £12.05...) ...as well as their Marmesa wines show that there is real value to be found in the US if you work at it.
