Tasting Notes

This is Bohrmann's old vine monopole and it is one of the best bang per buck white Burgundies we know about. Already bottled and just about ready to drink now it was open and ripe with zesty, white peach fruit and bags of refreshment on the finish.

Vinification Details.

The grapes are crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Around 20% of the blend is aged for around 9 months in new oak barrels, with the rest aged in a mixture of older oak and tanks. The wine is lightly fined and filtered before bottling.

Producer Information

Formally known as Domaine des Forges, this is a small domaine on the outskirts of Meursault, bordering the en la Barre vineyard. Owned by the Bohrmann family (who also own the celebrated Quinta do Passadouro Port house in the Douro), this is a domaine on the rise. The Bohrmanns are fiercely ambitious and are constantly looking to expand and improve their vineyard holdings. The monopole St Romain is a real treat and one of the best value white Burgundies we buy. The Meursault en la Barre is also stunning, coming as it does from a plot next door to one owned by Comtes Lafon.

Regional info.

St Romain is one of the most underrated vintages on the Cote d'Or and a source of some great value wines. We love the story about this meticulously kept vineyard which was prior to Domaine Bohrmann was apparently owned by an old gentleman who spent all his time there, banished from the house by his long suffering wife!
