Dark violet like appearance and showing youth. Earthy, herbaceous tones with ripe fruit and underpinned mintyness. Sweet spicy palate and tannins gives the wine a generous finish. Balanced oak but still youthful and will develop well in the bottle.

Vinification Details.

Destalked and lightly crushed, the grapes are then fermented in stainless steel open fermenter tanks. Matured in French oak barrels for 16-24 months - 5% of which are new

Producer Information

Located in Stellenbosch, with vineyards adjacent to Vergelegen and Morgenster, Journey's End is right at the heart of one of the cape's most exciting terroirs. bought and replanted by the Gabb family in 1996, the last ten years have seen the estate grow into one of the most talked about in the region. The wines have won accolades and medals at wine competitions around the world ever since the maiden vintages of the Cabernet and Chardonnay achieved 4 and 5 star ratings from the prestigious John Platter Guide in 2004. The philosophy in both the vineyards and cellar follows a minimum intervention approach to ensure the quality of the fruit shines through.

Regional info.

Journey's End is a boutique vineyard and winery located in the picturesque Stellenbosch region, outside of Cape Town, in South Africa. Owned by the Gabb family since 1995 they produce around 6,000 dozen bottles of award winning, high quality wine per year and enjoy stunning views over False Bay, Cape Point and beyond. A newly completed winery will officially open in February 2010.

Roger Gabb discovered the Vineyard in 1995. The Gabb family purchased the farm and the original 20 hectares and started from scratch including building a house, installing water and reviving the derelict vines: it has been a real labour of love. The vines were replanted in 1996 and 1998 and these same vines remain today producing the exceptional fruit used to make the award winning wines from Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Sauvignon Blanc was plated in 2008 and further planting this year include Viognier, Semillon, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre. The estate benefits from south-facing slopes and cool coastal breezes and the wines are made solely from Journey's End grapes. All the white and red wine grapes are hand selected and are transported no further than 150m, preserving grape quality. With the aim to constantly expand to meet the high demand for the wine they have since purchased more land and now have 45 hectares.

Journey's End Wines have won a large number of Gold and Silver awards and trophies including Decanter Wine of the Month in June 2009.
