Tasting Notes for Knappstein Enterprise Vineyard Cabernet 75cl 2003:
A classic Clare Cabernet with concentrated full-bodied mulberry and blackberry fruit, deep chocolaty vanilla oak and smooth, juicy tannins all lifted by some tell-tale Aussie eucalyptus character.
Producer Information:
Knappstein is one of the biggest names in the Clare Valley, perhaps Australia's most enigmatic wine region. Home to both full-bodied rich reds and lean, lemony Riesling, Clare's split personality takes on a bit of Bordeaux, a bit of Alsace and a dash of the Rhone - all with a distinctive Aussie accent. Paul Smith is the man in charge at Knappstein and having learnt his trade with men such as Brian Croser and Jeffrey Grosset, is a paid up member of the Clare Valley Appreciation Society. In his first vintage, he released a new Single Vineyard Riesling that carried off the Gold Medal at the Clare Valley Wine Show and he hasn't looked back since, collecting medals and trophies at competitions around the world. A talented brewer in his spare time too, Paul also makes a stunning boutique lager.
