Tasting Notes for d'Arenberg The Stump Jump Riesling/Marsanne/Sauvignon 2006 75cl:

A wonderful fresh vibrant appearance with an equally appealing aroma. The wine has excellent balance and length of flavour which we see as being an essential element in a great value drink.

Producer Information:

Joseph Rowe Osborn, founder of d'Arenberg and patron of the turf, bought his first McLaren Vale vineyards with the winnings of his racehorse, Footbolt, whose name lives on in Shiraz form. His grandson d'Arry and great-grandson Chester inherited the business and have built it into one of Australia's best loved wineries. The last decade has seen Chester develop a range of white wines every bit as individual and thrilling as the reds with which the company made its name. With the iconic red stripe labels and funky names d'Arenberg's wines have a loyal following, eager for more of the rich, concentrated fruit for which they are famous.

Regional Info

The name 'Stump Jump' relates to the significant SA invention - the Stump Jump plough. The plough soon became a worldwide implement for ploughing fields because of its ability to ride over stumps & gnarled 'mallee' Eucalypt roots & snags, saving time & energy by not stopping the draught horse.

Vinification Details

The vintage was very good. Stump Jump varietal components are picked at different levels of ripeness. Fruits are gently destemmed & crushed & basket pressed lightly with free run & pressed juice separated. The juice is then run off to refrigerated tanks where where it is slowly fermented to dryness.
