Bibendum launches Audry Cognac in the UK - 01/10/2008
At Bibendum's recent Winestock Festival, the Audry Cognac Room had no shortage of visitors, keen to try this amber nectar. Bibendum has just launched this range of five cognacs in, offering what Time magazine claim to be "the best cognacs you have never heard of" to our prestige and private customers.
The house of A Edmond Audry Cognac was founded in 1878 by the great great grandfather of the current owner. Their exceptional cognacs grace some of the finest restaurants and exclusive retailers in France, but until now have not been available in the UK.
Audry cultivate the art of ageing and blending the very best eau-de-vie de Cognac, sourcing Cognacs from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne regions, then ageing them slowly in old oak barrels from the Limousin or Troncais forests. The Master Blender selects and blends the Cognacs when they reach full maturity, then allows a further resting period of two to four years in very old oak barrels to marry the flavours and produce a melting Cognac.
When a batch of very old Grande Champagne Cognac, having spent at least fifty years asleep in the barrel, reveals such a strong personality and distinctive characteristic it is bottled straight from the barrel. This is the Tres Ancienne Cognac...and pretty special it is too.
You can see what James Thomas thought about his recent visit there on our blog.
