There are moments in a campaign that create a real buzz, and the release of Calon Segur this morning was certainly one of them. Always big fans of Mme Gasqueton's ever-elegant wines, we loved the 2006, and at halfway between 2004 and 2005, it turns out that the price is most definitely right. Jancis likes it too:"almost Lafite-like lift and race". Great value for a wine that went straight into our list in the "Ultra Posh - when nothing but the best will do" section!

Every year we look forward to this visit more than most and we definitely make sure we keep on the right side of Madame Gasqueton. She even turned away top journos this year as she couldn't find room in her appointment book! Lovely nose that shows a mix of spices, herbs, leather, cassis and blackcurrants. Very elegant with tonnes of finesse. So smooth in the mouth with a big, ripe tannic structure. Great stuff! Drink from 2016. 18pts - Bibendum
