Spy Valley adds to its tally of international awards - 02/12/2008

After a brilliant performance at the Decanter Awards earlier in the year, Spy Valley Wines from Marlborough made sure the trophy cabinet will need that extension after all by winning The Schenker Trophy for Best New Zealand Wine Producer at the IWSC Awards 2008. The International Wine and Spirits Competition is one of the foremost wine shows in the world and the competition for the prize was fierce. Big names like Villa Maria, Saint Clair and Astrolabe amongst others all made the final shortlist.

At the lavish awards ceremony at the Guildhall, Bibendum's Dave Walsh (pictured middle right) popped his tux on again to pick up the award on behalf of Blair Gibbs and his team in Marlborough. Upon finding out about the award Blair said:

"The IWSC rates as one of the annual highlights for the global competitions tour. The timing of the event leading into the Christmas season is very important as it gives an early indication on new releases as well as a solid branding opportunity from a highly respected show.

Possibly our biggest single accolade for 2008 has already meant a lot to our growth. We've had enquiries from two new markets in the last 48 hours as a result of this and another recent international accolade"

Spy Valley wines is one of Marlborough's leading family-owned wine companies. Comprising ten varieties of grapes over 380 acres of estate vineyards, together with a modern, fully integrated winemaking facility and a passion for excellence, Spy Valley consistently produces globally acclaimed, award-winning wines.

Look out for the delicious Riesling which was served on awards night. It paired beautifully with the fish dish and was unanimously voted the wine of the night on our table...(without any extra cajoling...promise!)
