Nuits St-Georges 1er Cru Rue de Chaux Domaine Jean Chauvenet (12 x 75cl)

Score: 17/20, Bibendum Commune: Nuits St-George

Slightly subdued nose but plenty to get stuck in to on the palate: liquorice, cherries and blackberries. Lots of life to this beauty. Made from vines planted in 1921, this wine really shows the extra definition and clarity of fruit that old vines give.

Nuits St-Georges 1er Cru Vaucrains Domaine Jean Chauvenet (12 x 75cl)

Score: 16.5/20, Bibendum Commune: Nuits St-George

Quite big and backward at this stage but clearly well-balanced, with ripe tannins, crisp acidity and deep, forest fruits all in perfect harmony. Will be good.

Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Nicolas Potel (6 x 75cl)

Score: 17.5/20, Bibendum Commune: Pernand-Vergelesses

Rich, powerful nose with loads of fruit intensity and vigour on the palate. Concentrated, mineral and long. Nicolas really has raised his game with his white wines in recent years, building on a superb showing last year.

Bourgogne Aligote Domaine Remi Rollin (12 x 75cl)

Score: 15/20, Bibendum Commune: Pernand-Vergelesses

Quite floral, very fresh and possessing more than enough weight to handle the acidity. From 45 year old vines planted just behind the hill of Corton on poor soils. Great value.

Racy and fine with peach and grapefruit notes and lovely acidity. Bargain hunters take note.

As you might expect, this is a big step up from the P-V: rich, dense and powerful with plenty of concentration and lovely weight, balance and length.

Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses Domaine Remi Rollin (12 x 75cl)

Score: 16.5/20, Bibendum Commune: Pernand-Vergelesses

Savoury and fresh with a core of crisp red fruit. Very pure again with just a hint of cream on the finish. More concentrated than the Village wine with impressive length.

Bourgogne Blanc Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot (12 x 75cl)

Really good with bags of fruit (even a touch of pineapple) but nothing fat or clumsy. Good length too.

Pommard Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot (12 x 75cl)

Crisp, clean nose with bright fruit aromas. The palate is quite light and fresh with just a touch of firmness from the tannins, Good.

Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot (12 x 75cl)

Score: 16.5/20 Commune: Pommard

Just 2 barrels of this, one new and one not. It was very cold when we tasted it but managed to show its power and class nonetheless. Lots of juicy red fruit and smooth, ripe tannins.

Lively, spicy nose with lots of friendly, forward fruit on the palate. More than enough acidity to balance but this is already showing well. A bit of a show-stopper.
