Trend to Watch: Bottled Out

Wine on tap

The wine bottle is dead. Long live the wine bottle. Packaging for wine has remained fairly constant throughout the years. Now, with better quality wine in kegs, trendy bars are able to offer good wine at astonishing prices. Vinoteca in Soho offer a 125ml serve of Riesling for £3.95. General Manager, Willoughby Andrews says kegs “will change the whole scope on packaging.” They aren’t the only ones. Pizza Pilgrims have served Prosecco-style sparkling on tap since their restaurant opened on Soho’s Dean Street.

This could be the year that wine on tap hits the mainstream. After a long battle to challenge consumer perception, it is now clear that they innovation in packaging is really popular when it comes to wine. As a starting point, offering a selection of wines in carafes or jugs provides a different measurement choice for the customer as well as selling more than just a glass.
