Produced from one of South Africa’s largest Fairtrade certified wine estates, this isn’t just any ordinary Chenin Blanc from South Africa.

The grapes here are harvested from the old vines on the estate’s Bottelary Hills vineyard; the age of the vines is reflected in the name each year. The grapes are crushed before being barrel fermented on their lees in a selection of French, American and Hungarian oak, which imparts a wonderful richness to the wine.

A small proportion of the Chenin grapes are botrytised before being harvested and added to the blend, giving interesting honeycomb and caramel flavours which, alongside the barrel fermentation which will enable this wine to age gracefully for the next 10 years.

Although Chenin is famous for being adaptable to most styles of wine, this one is definitely different to most. Showing off the winemaking skills of the team at Stellenrust, headed by the powerhouse that is Tertius Boshoff, its rich, tropical fruit flavours sit beautifully alongside great body, balance and weight. Creamy, caramel characteristics, supported by well-judged use of oak, and bright acidity…this is a serious Chenin Blanc!
