mytaste with the Elliot Brothers of Pizza Pilgrims

Bibendum partnered up with Jazz FM to launch a monthly series of conversations with restaurateurs and chefs. This episode features James and Thom Elliot, founders of popular pizzerias, Pizza Pilgrims.

Brothers, James and Thom Elliot came up with the idea for Pizza Pilgrims in a pub in Shepherd’s Bush in the summer of 2011. From there, they acquired a little 3-wheeled Piaggio Ape van, collected her from the South of Italy and spent six weeks driving her home learning everything there is to know about pizzas from some of the most highly regarded pizzaoli in the world.

Following this ‘pizza pilgrimage,’ they returned to England and installed an Italian stone oven in the Piaggio Ape van. They sold their first pizza in March 2012 in Berwick St Market in Soho. After that they toured the UK, selling pizza at all kinds of events from music festivals, to football matches, from “Verticle Dance” (that’s pole dancing) championships to bar mitzvahs.

In August 2013, following the great reception that their pizzas received; James and Thom opened their first Pizza Pilgrims’ pizzeria on Dean Street in Soho, their spiritual home. They kept the same formula – simplicity and authentic ingredients. The second Pizza Pilgrims pizzeria opened in Kingly Court in Summer 2014.
