British consumers still need a little more persuasion to entice them to part with their hard-earned cash. Thankfully, there are plenty of reasons why they should spend it on English fizz.

Awards a plenty

Oz Clarke recently declared that “English Wine is at a tipping point,” and judging by the results at this year’s International Wine Challenge awards, he’s right. There were a record-breaking number of trophies and the majority of awards were handed to sparkling wines. We're proud to say Nyetimber walked away with the English sparkling wine trophy.

Elegant accompaniment to food

With its elegant acidity, English sparkling wine can offer a superb match to food.  Aiden Byrne, head chef at Manchester House, agrees: “I love the versatility, for me personally it works as a great match to dishes on our ever evolving menu.”  If your customers are planning a dinner party, English sparkling wines are a perfect fit.

Provenance  - boast about local

As consumers become savvier about their food, provenance has become even more important.  Consumers now not only want to know that their beef is local, but want to know the farmer’s name and the breed of the cow.  English wine is primed for further success as conscious consumers transfer these principles to wine in the same way. Neck tags or even a sticker that highlights the provenance would help them stand out on the shelf. Let customers make an informed decision that works for your profit margin too.

Follow the On Trade’s lead

English sparkling wine has become the darling of the On Trade. We know consumers look for wines they’ve tried in restaurants on the shelves of Independents. Take inspiration from the Trade. Oliver Vivian, head sommelier at boutique hotel Stovell's believes that hand-selling is required for introducing new customers to English sparkling wine: “if we recommend it to customers, they’re happy to give it a go."  Conveying that sense of passion for a locally made product adds value for the consumer.
