Silvertip and Monocle from Beerd Brewery

Beer bottles

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you’ll have noticed the stunning range of beers now easily available beyond the usual bland and fizzy lager that was once the only option at the local boozer.

According to the Society of Independent Brewers, sales of artisan and craft beers increased by 7.9% in 2013 to 1.55 million barrels. This has largely been driven by the 25-34 year old age group, who make up half of all craft beer consumers. The craft beer category is now so popular that it is worth £225 million to the trade.

You may be familiar with Beerd Brewery. It’s based in Bristol and has such an extensive catalogue of exciting beers we couldn’t resist trying a few. For education, of course. For the first time and exclusive to Bibendum, the Beerd Silvertip and Monocle will be bottled and available to our customers. These beers have previously only been available in cask, so don’t miss out on the chance to increase the quality of your beer offering with us.

Here’s a quick guide to these exclusive Beerd bottled beers:

All the hops come from New Zealand and include the Nelson Sauvin variety (so called because of the refreshing gooseberry character not dissimilar to Sauvignon Blancs that have become so well known).

This is the closest thing to a crisp refreshing white wine a beer could be. In a good way. The hops used are found in a whole host of modern IPA styles but this has been given the Beerd treatment.

This is a fruity and fresh beer that excites the taste buds and has a slightly bitter finish. Dangerously easy to drink.

Most Pale Ales available are made using American hops for the kind of hoppy and fresh aromas that customers have come to expect, whereas this brew uses only hops from the UK. This puts an English twist on a style, with proven success.

The addition of dry hops after the boiling process means the delicate hop oils aren’t lost and keeps the style similar to the kind of hop IPA customers are used to.

A malty body that you may expect from a beer brewed from English hops but with a spicy and floral aroma that perhaps you won’t. It’s a winning style that’s been proven by the cask ale’s popularity.

If that isn’t enough, we've also added beers from Brewdog, Brains and Portobello Brewing Company to our existing range of Curious Brew and Meantime. Keep an eye out for more information coming soon!
