Alain Jaume Clos de Sixte Lirac (Rhone, France)

Alain Jaume Clos de Sixte Lirac

The Clos de Sixte is made by Alain Jaume & Fils, one of the southern Rhone’s rising star estates.

Run by Brothers Sebastian and Christophe Jaume, who have created a portfolio of wines of great quality, and considering their prices, stand head and shoulders above many producers in the region on the quality front.

Clos de Sixte grapes are grown on very similar soil to the iconic Chateauneuf du Pape, sitting opposite sides of the river.  Sitting to the West of the river, the vineyards here are drier and more open than in Chateauneuf du Pape, giving firmness to the wines and creating rich, spicy, fleshy reds. The Clos De Sixte Lirac is made using 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre.

This wine has everything you’d expect from a top Rhone producer with great depth of fruit, combining finesse and subtlety. This is a big, bold wine with lots of dark red fruit and ripe tannins.  It’s the perfect wine for hearty dishes, such as slow cooked lamb or roast beef.
