Our Commitments

We've set ourselves four targets for the end of 2012

Commitment 1: To increase recycling rate to 70%

What have we done so far?
  • Removed all waste paper baskets from around the office; each floor has a recycling and waste point.
  • Use a waste and recycling partner who are able to collect not only paper, card and glass but many plastics too
  • Encouraged staff to reuse plastic bags
  • In 2010 we recycled 65% of our waste
What else we can do?
  • Continue to ensure that everyone at Bibendum is aware of what can be recycled and where to put recycling.
  • Encourage employees to not purchase goods in packaging that is non-recyclable

Commitment 2: To reduce paper invoicing to less than 10% of total invoices

What have we done so far?
  • Introduction of EDI (electronic data interface) system
  • Contacted customers directly to discuss the benefits and options of non-paper invoicing
  • In 2010 14% of total invoicing was on paper
Target achieved! We reached 9% paper invoicing in October 2011

Commitment 3: To reduce carbon emissions related to energy use by 5%

What have we done so far?
  • Installed motion and daylight sensitive lighting
  • Reduced boiler and air con hours to only be used when necessary
  • Encouraged all staff to turn off monitors and computers when not in use
  • In 2010 we produced 199.41 tonnes of CO2 attributed to energy use
What else we can do?
  • Replace spot lights with energy efficient LED lights
  • Remove unnecessary fluorescent tube lights
  • Install secondary glazing

Commitment 4: To reduce carbon emissions related to travel by 5%

What have we done so far?
  • The use of taxis is discouraged
  • Driving to work is discouraged unless employees are able to car share
  • Joined the Ride2Work scheme which enables employees to purchase a bike almost tax free
What else we can do?
  • Ensure employees use train travel instead of air travel for domestic journeys where possible
  • Use teleconferencing equipment for meetings that do not need to be conducted in person
  • Ensure all employees who use a company vehicle are aware of eco driving principles
  • Use greener company vehicles

In 2010 we produced 807.31 tonnes of CO2 attributed to travel (this includes fuel use for business vehicles, business flights and staff commuting)

Our commitments are in line with those we have made as part of the Camden Climate Change Alliance to reduce our carbon footprint by 5% by the end of 2012.

Our carbon footprint in 2010 was 1173 tonnes of CO2
Our target for 2012 is 1114 tonnes of CO2
