How to Support Charity

Donating money or time and talent – just get involved

You can donate financially or donate your time and talent as a volunteer or a trustee. Financial donations are most valuable to a charity when they are reliably given over time through a tax efficient route.

Regular giving and gift aid

Making a regular gift by standing order or direct debit from your bank account accompanied by a gift aid declaration (which covers all such gifts from you). The charity can rely on the income and can receive the gift-aid from the Inland Revenue. From a charity perspective this is administratively straightforward and inexpensive to process.

Give as you earn

Donating an amount from your gross income to a charity, direct from salary. Your company needs to be able to administer this but it is a great way for individuals to give without worrying about whether a Direct Debit might fail. This is the most popular form of donation in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia – all former British colonies and all of them more generous than we are!

A sponsored event

Gift–aided sponsorship is actively encouraged and provided for by good online giving facilities. Ideas such as running a marathon or a sponsored bike race or more gentile events like sponsored a fancy dress party or bake sale appeals to all.

Volunteering

If you have limited funds but a little time to give there are still lots of ways you can help make a difference by volunteering. Whilst you’ll want to make a real difference when you volunteer, it’s not just about what you can do for others. Volunteers get a lot out of the experience too, volunteering is rewarding for everyone involved.
